Session 3 : Behavioural risk within the Board

Workshop by speakers :  Mrs. Juliette van Doorn - Executive Director - Safehouse Advisory

Theoretical introduction :

  • Understanding behavioural risk: behavioural patterns and drivers that may lead to poor outcomes. Slides. Illustrated with recent examples of organisations / incidents from the financial services industry.
  • Understanding behavioural risk in your Board room: patterns and drivers that may hinder the quality of decision making specifically

Workshop : Practice and reflection on Behavioural risk within your own Board

  • Self-reflection on own Board - when is the quality of the discussion in your Board at its best and when at its worst? What is the key challenge for your Board when it comes to decision making? Please write this key challenge down.
  • Practicing with a case in observing behaviours and drivers in a decision-making situation: video and template exercise.
  • Discuss with fellow participating Directors potential strategies to deal with situations where decision making may be impaired by behaviours and drivers at the table.
  • Circling back to you own case: what are strategies that you can adopt to help improve the decision making in your Board from a behavioural perspective?

Session 4 : Cultivating ethical artificial intelligence in governance

Lecture by speaker: Mr. David Martens -  Professor of Data Science at the Department of Engineering Management, University of Antwerp, Belgium and he is the author of the book “Data Science Ethics” (Oxford University Press).

  • In this session, we explore the intersection of AI and governance, emphasizing the importance of responsible AI adoption. Gain insights into ethical considerations, transparency, and accountability to ensure that AI technologies align with ethical standards.

Methodology

You follow a ‘Classroom training’ in a group. You, the other participants and the teacher are all present in the same classroom at an agreed time. There is an opportunity for interaction and feedback, both from the participants to the teacher and vice versa. The teaching material consists as a basis of a presentation via the MyFA learning platform, supplemented with various other items (such as digital syllabus, presentation, audiovisual fragments, etc.).
